The Friar Park Millennium Centre is a thriving community centre in the heart of Wednesbury’s Friar Park area. It provides a range of activities and facilities for local community use.

The Friar Park community will grow over the next 10 years with more than 700 new homes being built in the immediate area; 630 of these to be located on the Friar Park Urban Village site (immediately north of the Millennium Centre).

This project aims to address the concerns raised by residents around the capacity of the Friar Park Millennium Centre, to meet the needs of the existing and new community.

The project will involve reconfiguring the existing floorplan and creating an extension to accommodate the space needed for the centre to offer diverse services for more people. This includes helping people to improve skills.

Since this project started, the Millennium Centre now hosts Sandwell Council Youth Service activities and a Job Club started in March 2024. For more information about what’s going on at Friar Park Millennium Centre visit: Friar Park Millennium Centre | Wednesbury | Facebook

November update:

Friar Park Millennium Centre refurbishment and extension – information sharing event

Sandwell Council is inviting residents to drop-in events on 1 and 2 December to find out more about the planned refurbishment and extension of the Friar Park Millennium Centre in Wednesbury.

The project, which is being funded via the Wednesbury Levelling Up Partnership, will involve refurbishing the existing main building alongside building a new extension to the rear.

The improvements will help respond to concerns raised by residents about whether the current centre is big enough to serve the growing population in the Friar Park ward.

Information about the project will be available to view online from 1 December at consultationhub.sandwell.gov.uk along with answers to frequently asked questions that provide further context and clarity. You can access the consultation hub here.

Although this is not a formal consultation, members of the project team will be on hand to answer any questions at two face-to-face drop-in events, where residents can view the latest information.

The drop-in events will be held at the Millennium Centre, Friar Park Road, WS10 0JS, from 11am to 1pm on Sunday 1 December and from 4pm to 6pm on Monday 2 December.

A planning application for the extension will only be submitted, shortly after the information sharing event.
