  • Oldbury site transformed into 12 new homes

A former council depot site in Oldbury has been transformed into a new residential development, delivering 12 family homes as part of Sandwell Council’s ongoing regeneration efforts.

A brownfield site on Crosswells Road, previously home to a council operated depot, has been fully redeveloped to provide a mix of much-needed two- and four-bedroom homes, including three bungalows. Two of the properties are four-bedroom homes designed to accommodate up to six people.

Construction was carried out by Seddon Housing Partnerships on behalf of Sandwell Council, with the scheme receiving grant funding from Homes England.

In addition to improving the visual appeal of Crosswells Road and welcoming new residents to the area, the new homes have been designed with energy efficiency in mind. Each property is equipped with photovoltaic (PV) solar panels and electric vehicle charging points, helping tenants lower their energy bills and reduce their carbon footprint.

Some of the homes include bespoke features designed to meet the changing needs of future tenants, such as wheelchair-accessible layouts and downstairs wet rooms, making them suitable for residents with mobility needs.

Councillors have welcomed the completion of the project, highlighting its role in addressing local housing demand and supporting the council’s regeneration ambitions.

Councillor Vicki Smith, Sandwell Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing and Sustainable Development, said: “We are incredibly pleased to see the new homes on Crosswells Road completed and to a very high standard. It’s so important for us to be able to regenerate sites like these and build new homes for our tenants.

“With a housing shortage nationally, we know how important it has been to complete these works and to create new sustainable homes in our communities.

Councillor Peter Hughes, Sandwell Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Infrastructure, added: “Regenerating brownfield sites such as this is an important component not only building new homes for our residents but also providing local employment and reinvigorating areas and communities for the 21st century.”

Tony Clark, Regional Director at Seddon, added: “It is fantastic to see that these homes have now been completed in Oldbury.

“This brownfield site had plenty of challenges to overcome, but it has now been opened up to create amazing new homes that will contribute to the wider neighbourhood. The homes on Crosswells Road will provide an important place for people in the area to relax, unwind and make great memories together.”
