The Wednesbury Health Centre and Housing development, situated on a one-acre brownfield site next to Wednesbury Leisure Centre, will create five much-needed new council properties – four two-bedroom homes and one three-bedroomed home – plus a modern health centre for the Spires Health Centre and the district nurse service.
This scheme is complete!
The delivery of five new homes and a new state-of-the-art Spires Health Centre, ‘Richard Nugent Centre’ practice is complete.
The £5-million project was designed and project managed by Sandwell Council’s internal Urban Design & Building Services team. The new housing development has four properties with two bedrooms and one property with three bedrooms. It is one of the first housing schemes in Sandwell to provide electric vehicle charging. The health centre was constructed by Interclass and was procured through the Constructing West Midlands framework. Work on site started in February 2022.
Located in King Street, Wednesbury, the flagship centre will enable better patient access and replace services which are currently provided at the Woods Mesty Croft facility and a temporary building located in Albert Street.
The new centre will be significantly larger than existing healthcare facilities and will include a suite of consulting, treatment, and meeting rooms as well as 32 on-site car parking spaces and an ambulance drop-off area. The development also includes the construction of five new council houses part funded by Homes England and WMLEP (Local Enterprise Partnership).
Des O’Neill, managing director of Interclass commented: “We are delighted to be involved in this important scheme which will result in a fantastic and modern facility for the patients and staff of Wednesbury. Interclass has an extensive record of delivering healthcare facilities and we are especially pleased to further grow our relationship with Sandwell Council on this project.”
