The Midland Met Learning Campus project will deliver a major new skills resource providing training in healthcare and healthcare related positions from entry level to level 7 skills and will be situated on site next to the Midland Metropolitan University Hospital (MMUH) in Smethwick.
The project will bring together Sandwell Council, The Learning Works, run by SWB NHS Trust, Sandwell College, University of Wolverhampton and Aston University to deliver a new Further Education and Higher Education university campus. The prime location next to the hospital offers substantial opportunities for higher quality education provision that could not occur at each partner’s respective alternative locations.
The new building will bring together multiple facilities, providing a single centre for the community promoting access to training, development, and employment opportunities within the NHS. The largest growth in education provision will be in three areas: Additional Clinical Services, Allied Health Professionals and Nursing and Midwifery.
The project Full Business Case was approved by Government in March 2022. The project team have since undertaken a number of activities in the background to finalise the work packages to deliver this project. Works commenced on-site in August 2024.
