The completion of the Black Patch Park Cycle Scheme is being hailed not only as an infrastructure success, but as a strong example of how contractors can deliver meaningful social value.
The scheme, delivered by Parade Civils, has introduced a new and improved cycle route through Black Patch Park, creating a safer, more accessible corridor for cyclists, walkers and families. The enhancements are designed to encourage active travel, improve connectivity across the area, and provide a welcoming outdoor space for the local community.
While the physical upgrades have been widely welcomed, it is the social value delivered by the contractor that has set the project apart.
Parade Civils has been recognised for its commitment to supporting the local community throughout the scheme. A key achievement was its focus on local employment, with 82% of the workforce living within a 10-mile radius of the site. This approach ensured that the economic benefits of the project were retained within the community, supporting local livelihoods and strengthening the regional workforce.
The contractor also demonstrated a clear commitment to skills development by providing an existing apprentice with valuable on-site experience. This opportunity helped build practical knowledge and contributed to long-term career development within the construction industry.
Engagement with young people formed another important pillar of the project’s social impact. Working in partnership with Windsor Olympus Academy, Parade Civils supported an art poster competition involving more than 120 pupils. The initiative encouraged creativity while promoting key messages around road safety and sustainable travel, helping to inspire the next generation to think differently about how they move around their community.
The completed cycle route was officially unveiled during the May 2026 Windsor Academy Trust Fun Run, where pupils, local authority representatives, community stakeholders and project partners gathered to celebrate. Parade Civils played an active role during the event, supporting activities and engaging attendees with road safety awareness.
Pav Virdi, Contracts Manager at Parade Civils, said:
“We were delighted to deliver the Black Patch Park cycle route scheme, which has enhanced the local park while creating a safe and welcoming space for residents to enjoy. A particular highlight of the project was the opportunity to work closely with the local school and wider community, helping to ensure the scheme delivers lasting benefits for everyone.”
The Black Patch Park Cycle Scheme highlights how infrastructure projects can go beyond delivering physical improvements. By prioritising local employment, investing in skills and engaging with the community, Parade Civils has created a lasting legacy that extends well beyond the new cycle route itself.
Sandwell Council congratulates all those involved, recognising the project as a successful and positive achievement for the area.
