Local construction firm Stourbridge Paving Company has helped make Bearwood Road Allotments more accessible, highlighting the power of community spirit.

Bearwood Road Allotments is celebrating a wonderful act of generosity that has helped make the site more welcoming and accessible for everyone. Run by volunteer plot-holders, the association has been developing a dedicated community plot - a space designed for people to meet, learn, and enjoy growing their own produce. Plans include demonstration sessions for new gardeners and raised beds to support those with limited mobility, ensuring that gardening remains inclusive and enjoyable for all.

To make the allotments safer and more accessible, the association sought help to create a level, paved pathway. Their request was met with generosity from Stourbridge Paving Ltd, who donated the paving slabs and completed the work at no cost. The result is a beautifully constructed route that will benefit visitors and gardeners for years to come.

“We are absolutely delighted,” said John Noons, Treasurer at Bearwood Road Allotments. “The paving work was beyond our abilities, and James and his team have done us proud. Their generosity is truly appreciated.”

James Taylor, Managing Director at Stourbridge Paving Ltd added, “We are always happy to support our local communities to bring a social value to all and happy we have helped to make the allotment a safer and more inclusive space for the community.”

Karen Richards, Sandwell Council Social Value Officer, also praised the effort: “This is a fantastic example of a local contractor giving back to their community. James and his team have demonstrated real social value, improving access and wellbeing for Sandwell residents. We are extremely grateful for their commitment to making a positive difference.”

Thanks to this collaborative effort, Bearwood Road Allotments continues to thrive as a community hub, combining the joy of gardening with the spirit of giving back.
