Midland Met Learning Campus
The Midland Met Learning Campus project will deliver a major new skills facility, providing training in healthcare and related professions from entry level through to Level 7. The campus will be located adjacent to the Midland Metropolitan University Hospital (MMUH) in Smethwick.

As part of the Smethwick Towns Fund Programme, the project brings together Sandwell Council, The Learning Works (run by SWB NHS Trust), Sandwell College, the University of Wolverhampton, and Aston University to establish a new Further and Higher Education campus. Its prime location next to the hospital creates significant opportunities for high-quality education and training that would not be possible at the partners’ existing sites.
The new building will combine multiple facilities into a single hub for the community, improving access to training, skills development, and employment pathways within the NHS. The most significant growth in education provision will focus on three key areas: Additional Clinical Services, Allied Health Professionals, and Nursing and Midwifery.
The £12.9 million Full Business Case was approved by the Government in March 2022. Since then, the project team has undertaken extensive preparatory work to finalise delivery, including securing an additional £3,102,000 in co-funding from the NHS Trust and £4,972,000 from the West Midlands Combined Authority.
Construction began on site in August 2024 and completed March 2026.
