Regeneration Pipeline Projects

The Levelling Up Partnership funding will reconfigure and expand the Friar Park Millennium Centre, providing new floorspace to offer diverse services for more people.

The Friar Park Millennium Centre, located in the heart of Wednesbury’s Friar Park area, is a vibrant hub offering a variety of activities and facilities for the local community.

Over the next decade, the Friar Park community is set to expand with the construction of over 700 new homes in the area, including 630 homes planned for the Friar Park Urban Village site, situated just north of the Millennium Centre.

This project aims to address concerns raised by residents regarding whether the current capacity of the Friar Park Millennium Centre can meet the growing needs of both the existing and incoming community.

To better serve the expanding population, the project involves reconfiguring the current floorplan and constructing an extension to create additional space. This will enable the centre to provide a wider range of services, including programs to help residents develop new skills.

Since the project began, the Millennium Centre has introduced new services, including hosting Sandwell Council Youth Service activities and launched a Job Club in March 2024.

 Project update:

• The Millennium Centre project is progressing as anticipated with practical completion due end of May 2026. 
• A number of works have been completed, including internal floorplan reconfiguration and plastering. These important works provide the basis for the refurbishment works of the central building.
• The new extension (next to the sports hall) has mostly been constructed. Once up and running it will serve as a flexible community space.
