  • Consultation: Two-way cycle lane along the A457 Soho Way

Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council is excited to share with you proposals for a new section of cycle track between Lynton Avenue and Soho Street Junction along the A457 Soho Way following the receipt of funding from the Department for Transport, called the Towns Fund, as part of the Government’s announcement in November 2020 to invest in high-quality cycling and walking infrastructure across England to make local journeys safer for all.

The previous phases from Galton Bridge to Rolfe Street and from Rolfe Street to Lynton Avenue.

It is hoped that the route will give residents the courage to embed cycling and walking into their travel arrangements, which will in turn have positive impacts on air quality and the environment, as well as the health and wellbeing of residents. The route improvements consist of:

  • Proposed 2-way cycle lane on the southern footway from Lynton Avenue to Crockett’s Lane
  • Uncontrolled crossing across Lynton Avenue
  • Proposed toucan crossing at Crockett’s Lane
  • Proposed 1-way cycle lane in each direction on the southern footway from Crockett’s Lane to Baldwin Street
  • Proposed 2-way cycle lane on the southern footway from Baldwin Street and finishing opposite Soho Street.
  • Small section of shared cycle/pedestrian way from Soho Street to Oakfield Road

From 21st August 2023, a three-week consultation will commence on the proposal.

Consultation start date: 21st August 2023

Consultation end date: 10th September 2023
